Highlands Elementary School held its annual Spelling Bee on January 18th.  Students in grades 4-6 competed first in their homerooms and the top spellers from each class advanced to the school-wide competition.

This year’s winner was 4th grader Leo Koernig, with 5th grader Frankie Myers in second place and 6th grader Jaden Ramsey in third place.

Leo will move on to the Regional Spelldown at Monmouth University on March 13th at 6:00pm.   The regional winner will then move on to the state finals and then to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in May 2017.  Best of luck, Leo!

Congratulations to our winners and to all of our HES super spellers! Thank you to the PTO for sponsoring HES' entry into the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
