Henry Hudson Regional School students visited the Wayne D. McMurray School of Humanities and Social Sciences’ Department of Communications at Monmouth University on January 31st.   This was the first visit after the establishment of the school’s STEAM Academy in partnership with MU.

Dr. Kenneth Womack, Dean of the College of Arts and Humanities gave an introductory speech, and the students along with Tri-District Superintendent Dr. Susan Compton, HHRS Principal Mrs. Lenore Kingsmore, Tri-District Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction Mr. Daniel Layton, HHRS Digital Video teacher Mr. James Gregg and HHRS parent and Atlantic Highlands Board of Education Vice President Suzanne Santry were then taken on a full tour of MU’s radio and television broadcasting studios by Dr. Aaron Ferguson, Chair of the Communications Department.  As part of the program, HHRS STEAM Academy students will be able to use media facilities at both schools as well as the Lakehouse Recording Studio in Asbury Park.  In addition to participating in an intern program and working directly with MU Communications students, HHRS Digital Video students will also be required to complete a Capstone project during their senior year.

Almost 20% of HHRS students are currently enrolled in HHRS’ Digital Video Program, which has received 24 awards since it was established in 2011.

The HHRS-MU partnership in the STEAM Academy is the first established school district partnership in the history of MU’s Communications Department.
