Atlantic Highlands Elementary School and Bayshore Recycling conducted a waste audit on November 22nd. The purpose of the audit was to determine how much of the school’s “trash” can be reduced, reused or recycled vs just being thrown away.  AHES students took part in the sorting and weighing of different types of waste from the school’s dumpsters and learned a lot about the school’s impact on our environment.  AHES is working to become a Sustainable Jersey certified school and the waste audit was one of the first steps to achieve the certification.   The school hopes to be awarded a Sustainable Jersey grant to install a water bottle filling station in the cafeteria.  Thank you to Principal Walling, the AHES Green Team and Mr. Gary Sondermeyer of Bayshore Recycling for coordinating the audit.
