June 10 2017 Atlantic Highlands, NJ-Annual Jump Rope for Heart event raises big bucks to promote healthy living and staying active.

Since February 2017 the students, parents, and staff at Atlantic Highlands Elementary School have been on a mission to raise money in an effort to promote a healthy lifestyle for all.  The Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser, sponsored by the American Heart Association, is designed to spread awareness and aid in the prevention, treatment, and cure of heart disease.

The initiative was reiterated in several health and physical education courses leading up to the main event, which took place in February and included the students partaking in several heart healthy exercise stations.  The PTO provided orange slices and refreshments for the event.  Health and Physical Education teacher Andrew Wolff spearheaded the fundraiser and could not be happier with the results.

“The students and parents in our community have worked hard to spread awareness regarding heart health and healthy living.  There are millions affected by this disease and I am proud to say that we have taken steps to raise money for treatment and prevention.  It truly was a team effort.”

Students drew their inspiration for raising funds from a variety of sources.  Some were motivated by the their desire to raise the most in their class, others wanted the school to receive the award for most funds raised, while others pushed to raise money to honor friends or family members who were afflicted by the disease.

Regardless of the reason, their efforts certainly went well above and beyond.  Atlantic Highlands Elementary was able to raise an astounding $26,700.00.  This was the 2nd most in Monmouth County and the 4th most in the state of New Jersey.   This is truly and outstanding achievement and one that principal Janet Walling is honored to be a part of.

“Our community really came together to make raising this money possible.  Students, parents, staff, and local businesses all contributed to our success.  Atlantic Highlands Elementary School is committed to educating our students about the importance of living a healthy lifestyle and staying active.  I am confident that we have made people more aware about prevention and treatment for this disease.  Great job everyone!”

The American Heart Association rewarded the student’s hard work by sponsoring an Open House event at Jenkinson’s Aquarium in Point Pleasant New Jersey.  The students got to spend time learning about some of the oceans coolest inhabitants and a great time was had by all.
