Atlantic Highlands Elementary School Matched with Environmental Defense Fund Fellows to Advance Sustainable Energy Projects

Atlantic Highlands, NJ – Atlantic Highlands Elementary School will receive two Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) Fellows, Elihu Dietz and Kevin Hollerbach, to provide on-site technical assistance with energy efficiency projects this summer. This technical assistance program has been made possible through funding provided by New Jersey Natural Gas.

“I am thrilled that Atlantic Highlands Elementary School has been chosen to receive EDF fellows for the summer of 2017.  We are always working to improve our energy efficiency and we look forward to working closely with both Elihu and Kevin to reduce our carbon footprint.” –Dr. Susan Compton, Superintendent of Schools

“We are proud to partner with Sustainable Jersey and help connect communities with the resources they need to make wise energy choices,” said Anne-Marie Peracchio, director of conservation and clean energy policy for New Jersey Natural Gas. “The EDF Climate Corps fellowship program provides a unique opportunity for host townships and schools to embrace energy-efficient solutions and make sustainability a part of New Jersey’s energy future.”

Through the EDF Climate Corps fellowship program, Sustainable Jersey is pairing three specially trained fellows, typically MBA or similar graduates, with municipalities and school districts to provide expertise and support for evaluation, planning and implementation of projects that will help improve the energy performance of their respective buildings. The EDF Fellows will begin work in June 2017.

Sustainable Jersey reviewed the applications and will provide guidance to the fellows to help them advise participating schools and municipalities about resources specific to New Jersey, as well as initiatives that earn points toward the Sustainable Jersey certification program. “Supporting communities with technical expertise to do sustainable energy efficiency projects is an important step toward our goal of a sustainable New Jersey,” said Sustainable Jersey Director Randall Solomon. “Over the course of the summer, fellows will get energy efficiency projects on the fast track to accomplishment – simultaneously lowering energy costs and environmental impact.”

The 2017 New Jersey municipalities and school districts awarded an EDF Fellow are: Atlantic Highlands School District, Brielle Borough School District, Howell Township, Middletown Township, Rumson Borough School District, Sea Girt Borough School District and Shore Regional High School District.
